The Catalinas' story, 1958--1980, was published
in It Will Stand magazine, Vol 2 No's 14 &
15, 1980. "Dr." Beachley, co-owner and producer of
the Rhythm 'n Beach Network, spent months researching and writing
the Catalina's story. (Considering that Dr. Beachley covered
the first 22 years of the band; and it's now 18 years later....there
must be about as much to write as the first time around. The
Catalinas are strong as ever, with an anthology CD offering a
wide view of their recording career).
It Will Stand
was born to Dr. Beachley in 1978--the first Beach Music magazine
in history (and Beach music was 33 years old at that time). There
were 36 issues of It Will Stand published, in addition
to several It Will Stand newsletters published
intermittently. Some are quite difficult to get; yet an invaluable
resource for the cultural, sociological, musical researcher and
fan.
Vol. 2 No 14 & 15 also includes numerous
dance contest stories (including the songs used by the dancers),
"Doo-Wopp Beach; The West Coast Meets the East Coast; The
Story of the Penguins," the ongoing Reminiscing column in
which IWS invited fans to share their unique experiences growing
up as Beachdiggers, Record Reviews, Band itineraries and numerous
ads which give a strong sense of the Beach scene in 1980 (the
beginning of the 5th Wave.....)
